Since this musical heavily focuses on tap numbers there is a large element missing when just reading the script and listening to the music. Unfortunately, I get the sense that this musical relies HEAVILY on the spectacle. I wasn't a huge fan of the music and less-so of the plot. I mean, what was the show they're putting on even about? The vignettes of their performances scattered throughout *could* have had a through-line, which would have been interesting. As it is though, it seems like a bunch of random songs/scenes stitched together. The characters are largely under-developed, and more like caricatures than believable people (I suppose there was some intention to that, but with the lacking plot it makes it…
