Caring for Your Showcase Succulent

Thank you for being part of the Annual Showcase 2026. Each student is receiving a small succulent as a little reminder of their growth, effort, and creativity this year.

Succulents are easy to care for as long as they get enough light and are not watered too often. Your succulent is in a 3-inch pot (enough room to grow) with a drainage hole and a bamboo saucer.

Light

Place your succulent in a bright spot, such as a sunny windowsill or a table near a window.

Succulents do best with several hours of bright light each day. If the plant starts stretching upward or leaning strongly toward the window, it may need more light.

Water

Succulents do not need much water. Let the soil dry out completely before watering again.

For a small 3-inch pot, this may mean watering about every 2 to 3 weeks. It may need water a little more often in a very sunny or warm spot, and less often in a cooler or darker spot.

When you water it, give the soil a small drink until a little water comes out through the drainage hole. Let the pot drain fully.

Bamboo Saucer

The bamboo saucer is there to catch small drips and protect the surface underneath the plant.

Do not leave water sitting in the bamboo saucer. Bamboo can stain, warp, or grow mildew if it stays wet.

The easiest way to water your succulent is to take the pot to the sink, water it, let it drain, and then put it back on the bamboo saucer.

Temperature

Keep your succulent indoors at normal room temperature.

Avoid placing it directly beside a cold window, heater, air vent, or drafty door.

Common Signs

Wrinkly or thin leaves may mean the plant needs water.

Yellow, soft, or mushy leaves may mean it is getting too much water.

A tall, stretched-out plant usually means it needs more light.

Simple Care Summary

Put it somewhere bright.

Water only when the soil is completely dry.

Do not leave water sitting in the bamboo saucer.

With these simple steps, your succulent should stay healthy and continue to grow after the showcase.
